“In addition to the external barriers erected by society, women are hindered by barriers that exist within ourselves. We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in. We internalize the negative messages we get throughout our lives-the messages that say it’s wrong to be outspoken, aggressive, more powerful than men. We lower our own expectations of what we can achieve. We continue to do the majority of the housework and child care. We compromise our career goals to make room for partners and children who may not even exist yet.”
This book that I bought back in April is part of the reason why I started my company and this blog. I want to create an environment where women can feel supported in anything they want to do in life. I want to show people through this blog that you can overcome any obstacles and still find time to laugh and love. I want to make sure we help each other succeed rather than competing with each other for jobs and relationships. So instead of accusing our female coworker of sleeping her way to the top, help her get there and once she’s there let her help bring you up there with her. This is what The SWEET Network is all about: supporting women to empower and enhance themselves (and each other).
